While encouraging juniors to be active in golf the MSWGA recognizes the fact that they may also need assistance for college funding. In 1990 the MSWGA awarded it's first scholarship to a graduating senior girl who had been involved in golf as a junior player. We have continued with this important contribution and to this date have awarded 39 scholarships. Girls applying should either be involved in summer golf or a high school program. Starting in 2004 there will be an additional requirement that all girls applying "must have a handicap issued by MTS (Mountain Time Sharing)". MTS is the handicap vendor contracted by the Montana State Golf Association. MTS provides handicaps to junior golf players free of charge. A player is considered a junior through the summer following high school graduation. To obtain a junior handicap speak to your local professional or contact us at the MSWGA office and we will be happy to assist you.
In the past scholarship applications were mailed to all schools and girls with known addresses. Now that we are on the internet, we are asking for all counselors, players, parents, etc. to please contact Carla at the MSWGA office by either e-mail, fax, telephone for a copy of the application. If we save postage and printing costs more money will be available for scholarships.
HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS:
The MSWGA Hall of Fame is an honor of recognization by peers for contribution to the State of Montana either as an outstanding player (Superior Performance) or as an outstanding individual (Meritorious Service). Quite often these individuals may be "local heroes" and are recognized either in their club, county or community. And rightfully so, but occasionally a few "rise to the top". When they "rise to the top" with their game and put their mark on the State, it is easy to see who they are. However, when they give countless unpaid hours of their time and energy to the State association and not only women but all players are beneficiaries, they don't easily come forward for recognition. They are humble. So if you know of someone that should be recognized for their contribution and would like to nominate them please contact Carla at the MSWGA office either by e-mail, telephone or fax for a nomination form.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
If you have a questions for the MSWGA you may email individual Board Members whose email addresses are on the Home page of this website. Or you may email our general mailbox by clicking "Questions & Comment" below. We appreciate your questions and comments.
If I am chosen as the Delegate from my club, what are my duties and responsibilities?
Yes, for an accurate handicap you must record all scoresas long as you have played at least 7 holes for a 9-hole round or 14 holes for an 18 hole round.
If your handicap is 40 or more you can record no higher than 10 on any hole; if 30 to 39 no higher than 9 on any hole; if 20-29 no higher than 8 on any hole; if 10-19 no higher than 7 on any hole and if 9 or less you can record no higher than double bogey.
If you compete in scrambles, leagues, invitationals or other tournaments you could be cheating yourself, your team or your competitors without a legitimate handicap. (See the article on the "LOOSE IMPEDIMENTS" page of this website).
As a delegate you should become informed about the issues concerning your ladies association and the MSWGA. You should attend the Annual Meeting held in conjunction with the State Amateur Championship in the summer and vote for your club on the issues (and/or raise new ones). If you are unable to attend, someone should be appointed proxy to act as a representative of your association/club. This proxy may be from another nearby association.
FREQUENTLY ASKED RULES QUESTIONS (FARQ's)
If I take a free drop can I use my driver to measure my distance of relief?
No. You may only use your driver if you are "paying" for the drop with a penalty stroke. You must measure your relief with the club you anticipate using for the next shot. Of course if you use your driver on the next shot you can also use it to measure your relief distance. (You may use any club for the additional one club length drop).
